"TBone" Ted Kastelic on acoustic and slide guitar and
"DaddyO" Dave Becker on acoustic bass guitar play a
unique, original, soulful and entertaining brand of
acoustic folk/blues.

Folk,
Blues and Beyond...
Folk In A, a flavoursome interfusion of folk and blues
where “DaddyO” Dave Becker (bass) and “TBone” Ted
Kastelic (guitar/Harmonica) don’t stray too far from the
roots.
Folk In A, self-titled album; reminiscences of
Mississippi John Hurt with a touch of Steve Tilston
thrown in for size. This album attacks many angles and
styles, showing these guys aren’t afraid to use it.
Blues based and orientated Folk in A takes a fresh
approach, alive and full of energy.
From the steaming rhythm of “Fireball” and then
traveling onto beautiful instrumental like “Hearts Taken
Flight” is a sure way to open any album with style.
There are other gems like “To Say Goodbye” or “Oh Angel”
which take a serious approach with honest lyrics. To
quote Dylan “All I got is a red guitar, three chords and
the truth”.
If you’re into folk, fusion and blues then this album is
for you. ...Rob Craig

USA - FOLK IN A, Tone Hound Music,
www.folkina.com 13 tracks, 42:21 mins.
This is retro yet with vitality that allows it present
day interest. They are a power duo of Ted "T Bone"
Kastelic Lead guitar & main vocals/harmonica & "Daddy O"
Dave Becker on acoustic bass & backing vocals. They are
joined on this project by Dan "Mig" McLaughlin who plays
drums on five tracks, and Lisa "Lulu" Burns who provides
harmony vocals to four cuts & Arco bass to another. I
find little straight blues on this disc though it is
well hybridised throughout in their country and folk.
The acoustic Frisco boys burst in with a locomotive
chugger that has that early Scotty Moore riffing. They
go into a jazz/blues casual tale before we get back to
jangling guitar & harp with a sing along folk song. A
bottleneck guitar with rich baritone vocal follows, and
then we come upon a refreshingly light instrumental with
a simple backing rhythm. A talking tune of resigned love
loss, then a jazzy ragging folk, then the disc continues
with a Neil Young to The Band styled "Oh Angel" gets us
up to track eight. Onward with ragtime guitar with a
vaudevillian sway, a Bo Diddley pulsing beat that has a
wry look at American junk TV, then comes "Standup" a
folk rallying call to come together. We are left with
the great outdoors American soundscape of "Montana
Skies" that would not sound out of place on Sesame
Street or the likes, and a short lullaby with a
quickening and slowing repeated structure. Much more
folk orientated than blues content, but a damned good
album regardless of this magazines remit. I strongly
recommend you listen to their music via their website,
even if my words fail to raise your interest you let
your own ears be the final judge! ...Billy Hutchinson
